Recapturing the JOY of Christmas

Sometimes we just need to let go of the perfect picture we have in our heads.

For many years, I couldn't wait for summer to arrive. Why? I had visions of a "Martha Stewart" table set up on our porch to entertain friends who came to visit.

On this table...well...you can only imagine what it would look like if Martha Stewart set it up. Fresh squeezed lemonade, home baked cookies, monogrammed napkins, crystal glasses sparkling with ice...and on and on...and on!

Did that ever happen? NO! 

I was busy with life!

The opening statement above reminds me of my summers that never lived up to my "perfect picture."

Christmas seems to have the same expectations.

What I learned from those summers years ago was that I needed to find joy in the little accomplishments. And not beat myself up when I missed the mark.

If I can't make cookies from scratch, it's ok to use bought cookie dough.

If I can't wrap presents like a pro, it's ok to use gift bags.

If the tree has a few missing ornaments, it's ok! Let it go.

This year, let's all concentrate of the joy of Christmas wherever you find yours.
